The Hewlett Basin footbridge opens twice daily
Cross this harbor footbridge on schedule or wait six hours. Local maps still mark it as always open, but the basin keeper changed the pattern in 1987.
The Cordwainer Dock low-water crossing: October only
A cobbled causeway appears for ninety minutes each afternoon when autumn tides drop below the sill, connecting the harbor walk to Flint Island without a boat.
The Knacker Island shuttle runs twice on spring tides
A twice-daily ferry crosses to Knacker Island only when the tide allows clearance under the Topsham rail bridge—plan around the spring cycle or wait another fortnight.
Docking at Quincy Float between neap cycles
The float at Quincy sits lower than most visiting skippers expect, and the approach window narrows to forty minutes twice each lunar fortnight.
Mooring overnight at Trellis Basin requires two checks
The harbor master posts availability at four o'clock, but the tide window for entry closes ninety minutes later.
The Bellamy Pier launch operates on quarter-tides
The small launch at Bellamy Pier runs a schedule tied directly to quarter-tide intervals, not the printed timetable most visitors expect.
The Topsham Wharf gate closes at half-flood
Visitors planning a walk along Topsham Wharf should note the harbormaster's strict policy on the pedestrian gate. Once the tide reaches half-flood, the ironwork swings shut until the next ebb.
Catching the outbound packet from Salter Pier
The morning run to Hake Island departs forty minutes after low slack. Miss that window and you're waiting until the afternoon schedule opens.
The slack hour at Prescott Dock: May through August
Between the morning ebb and afternoon flood, Prescott Dock goes quiet for exactly one hour. If you know the table, you can walk the exposed pilings.
Walking the Narrows Path when the basin drains
The gravel route along the basin's north edge appears twice daily at low water. Timing matters more than the printed schedule suggests.
Ferry windows at Wicket Island: spring schedule
The Wicket Island ferry runs three reliable windows through mid-June. Miss the 7:40 and you're waiting until noon.
How to miss the Peg-and-Line tide on purpose
Cale’s window is twenty-two minutes. The clock on the wall is not invited.
